Obituary of Michael J. Burke

MICHAEL J. Burke, of Passaic formerly of Hackensack, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 22, 2015, at his home, at the age of 76. He received his Bachelors from Seton Hall in 1960 and then his Masters of Education from William Paterson, he was ordained a Priest in 1964 and was an associate Pastor at St. Aloysius Church, Jersey City. Michael was a member of the NJEA, HEA, HASA. He joined the Hackensack School system in 1970 working at the Hackensack Middle School as a guidance counselor then became Vice-Principal in 1979 and Principal in 1990. Michael was a fanatical Notre Dame fan, he also inaugurated and pitched the first little league game in Hackensack. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Passaic and a former parishioner of Church of the Immaculate Conception, Hackensack. Devoted father of Jennifer Berman and her husband Edward of Stanford, Ct. Cherished grandfather of Benjamin Berman. Dearest brother of Maureen Trebour and her husband Burton of Monroe Twp. and Margaret Hogan and her husband John of Iselin, he is also survived by his uncle Francis Burke of Beacon, NY and his aunt Theresa Hickey formerly of Bergenfield and several loving nieces and nephews. The Funeral on Friday March 27, at 9:45 AM from the funeral home. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 49 Vreeland Avenue, Hackensack, at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Maryrest Cemetery, Mahwah. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2 – 4 & 7 – 9 P.M. for visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations in Michael's memory may be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation, 4742 North 24th Street, Suite 400 Phoenix, AZ 85016.
