Obituary of Joseph Patrick Reilly

Joseph P. Reilly, of Great Meadows, NJ, formerly of Hackensack, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 13, 2016, at Hackettstown Hospital at the age of 89 years. Prior to retiring, he was a captain for the Hackensack Police Department where he worked for more than 30 years and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police # 16 and the Patrolmen's Benevolent Association # 9. He was also a member of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics and the NJ Police Honor Legion. Past Grand Knight and former Columbian Club President of the Knights of Columbus Trinity Council # 747 of Hackensack, he was a charter member of Augustus Rampone General Assembly Fourth Degree # 2150 of Great Meadows. He also served as co-chairman for the NJ State Council Knights of Columbus Special Olympics and served on the NJ State Council committee for the Torch Run for Special Olympics. Joseph was a parishioner of St. Peter and Paul R. C. Church of Great Meadows, and a former parishioner at Holy Trinity R. C. Church of Hackensack, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society and Usher's Society. A Navy Veteran of World War II and the Korean War he was a member of V.F.W. Post # 7408 of Maywood and the American Legion Post # 0131 of Belvedere. He also was a member of Hackensack Elks Lodge # 658. and the North American Hunting Club. Beloved husband of the late Irene "Liz" (nee Dempster) and Barbara (nee Neighmond). Devoted father to Karen Statton and the late Linda Kuchar. Loving grandfather to Peter Joseph, Lauren and Jennifer. Cherished great grandfather to Allison and Ian. Special friend to John and Theodora Irwin and Jim and Linda Coates. The funeral on Monday, December December 19th, at 10:45 AM from the funeral home. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 Noon at Holy Trinity R. C. Church, 34 Maple Avenue, Hackensack with burial following at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veteran's Cemetery, Arnytown, NJ. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2 – 6 PM. The family prefers in lieu of flowers, that you honor his memory with a donation to Law Enforcement Torch Run, 3 Princess Drive, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648.
