Thomas E. O'Neill, of Howell, NJ formerly of Midland Park, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at the age of 87 years. Tom earned his undergraduate degree in advertising design from Syracuse University and his master's degree in education plus credits (ending at All But Dissertation) from New York University. Prior to retiring he first worked at Ideal Publishing, NYC and then as an Art Teacher for the Fair Lawn, NJ Public School System for over 35 years. He also served as the Fair Lawn High School Yearbook Director. For many years, he served as Secretary of the North Jersey Craftsman's Fair. He was also an adjunct professor at William Paterson University. He was also a member of the NJEA, AENJ and NJREA. Pre and post-retirement he worked for several north jersey theatre productions, creating scenery for stage productions. He was also a United States Army Veteran and a parishioner of Church of the Nativity in Midland Park. Beloved husband for 61 years to Rosalie F. (nee Rizzo). Devoted father of Scott E. O'Neill and his wife Beth of Manasquan and Todd P. O'Neill and his wife Cara of North Carolina. Cherished grandfather of Kyle, Zachary, Ethan and Lily and a dear friend to many. He was a kind and selfless man, with an old-school work ethic and fastidious to a fault. He positively influenced the many students he taught. Always willing to lend a hand and volunteer for whatever need be, he will truly be missed by all who knew him. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM for visitation at the G. Thomas Gentile Funeral Home, 397 Union Street, Hackensack, NJ. The Funeral will begin on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at 8:45 AM at the funeral home. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM at Church of the Nativity, 315 Prospect Street, Midland Park, NJ, Cremation will be private.
