I was so saddened to hear of the passing of Mary “Sissy” Daly. My family has such deep ties with hers across generations—my grandmother and her mother, Margie, were best friends, and I grew up hearing how my grandmother said that when Sissy was born, she was the most beautiful baby she had ever seen, giving her the nickname that stayed with her for life.
Sissy carried that same beauty, inside and out, throughout her years. I remember the last time I saw her at my wedding in 2019, and how much joy and warmth she brought into the room. Her kindness and spirit left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Please accept my heartfelt condolences. I hope you find comfort in the love she shared so generously, in the strength of your family, and in the memories that will always keep her close.

Sissy,
my sweet sister-in-law❤️
From our different worlds, Copenhagen and New York City, with an ocean between us, we met 28 years ago in the beach atmosphere we both loved: the summer & sunshine at Fire Island.
Spontaneously we got on together and both had a passion for dancing - from our teenage years we knew the beats from listening to the same soul, jazz and rock&roll, the hits of: Brenda Lee, The Ronettes, The Crystals + all the other icons of our time.
With this background, all our family gatherings turned into happy celebrations: Thanksgivings and birthdays, Colleen’s and Billy’s weddings, the Christmas and New Year's Eve. I experienced an absolutely extraordinary and awesome family love, care and hospitality with the Daly and Counihan family.
Sissy took me under her wings and became a really good friend, and because we both knew the life as a single mother I quickly discovered the strength and perseverance that Sissy had from her family love and from sisterhood. We drove in her car on many great tours around New York City, Breezy Point, and the New Jersey shopping malls and not least had our cozy moments in the apartment on the West Side in Hell’s Kitchen with the fantastic view of The Big Apple...
Sissy travelled a lot - ready for adventures - and she came to Copenhagen and to summers in France where she bonded with my parents and family so well - especially my father who liked to dance with Sissy…
How we will miss Sissy and how I have cried inside these last years when I saw how Sissy fought bravely and with great strength against the cancer, a very painful, melancholic and sorrowful end of a beautiful life, so full of motherly love…
We must hang on to all the good memories from our wonderful moments together with Sissy.
With love to my family in NYC from the family in Copenhagen
Birgitte

Sissy was so much more than a mother-in-law to me. She was, quite simply, my second mother.
From the moment I joined the family 29 years ago, she welcomed me into her life with an open heart and no hesitation. She didn't just tolerate me; she made me feel instantly loved.
Sissy had a dedication to family that was unwavering. I will forever remember how she never, ever missed a birthday or special occasion - and, for better or worse (and she knew I'd say this), how she loved her holidays! She made sure we were all together for every single one. That dedication created a lifetime of memories, especially her legendary chicken parm on Christmas Eve; it just won't be the same without it.
More than the great times, I will never forget her unconditional love and generosity. When I was younger and going through a difficult time, Sissy took me in without question. She made sure I felt loved when I needed it most. That act of kindness is a debt I can never fully repay.
Just two weeks ago, we had a private conversation in the hospital that I will treasure forever. She looked at me and asked me to continue to take care of her daughter, a request I promise to honor for the rest of my life.
Sissy, I loved you deeply. You were the toughest woman I know, and you inspire us all. Thank you for the laughs, the LOVE, the lessons, and for the privilege of being your family. You were a courageous woman whose spirit remains a beacon of light for us all.
Rest in peace.
With all my love,
Alberto Arroyo
