Mary M. Daly Obituary

Mary Daly, affectionately known as Sissy by those who knew her best, lived a life that was as vibrant and spirited as the city of her birth. Born on February 17, 1950, in New York City, Mary's journey through life was a testament to her loving, kind, and courageous spirit. On September 27, 2025, in the same city that watched her grow, Mary's story on earth came to a peaceful close as she passed away after a valiant battle with cancer.

Sissy faced her final challenge, cancer, with the same grace and fortitude that characterized her entire existence. Her life was a journey of joy, love and faith. She ran the race set before her with hope and perseverance.

Professionally, Mary's dedication and intellect were evident as she ascended from a Billing Supervisor at American Banker to the influential role of Director of AR and Billing at Reed Travel Group. Her career further flourished as she took on the position of Manager of Client Services at L3 Harris Technologies. Even in retirement, Mary's passion for her work did not wane, as she continued to contribute as a Project Manager for the Wall Street Synagogue. Her work ethic and leadership inspired many who had the privilege of working alongside her.

Her family was the cornerstone of her life. Sissy was the cherished mother of William Thomas Daly Jr and Colleen Daly Arroyo, the loving mother-in-law to Laurie Daly and Alberto Arroyo and the adored sister of James Counihan and Eileen Counihan, who along with their spouses Birgitte Counihan and Cris Zukowski, formed an unbreakable family bond. Her cousin Walter Plunkett, his wife Ann Marie and their daughter Alannah Mae, in addition to her devoted niece, Debra Daly, and loving nieces Pamela Currlin, Claudia Stringer and their families were held dear to her heart, along with her beloved fur baby grand pup Lulu. Her lifelong treasured friends formed an extended family that was as integral to her life as her blood relatives.

Mary was predeceased by her mother, Margaret Counihan.

She relished the excitement of horse racing, especially the Kentucky Derby, where she loved to help friends pick and place their bets. Her love for travel took her to beach destinations where she enjoyed a good Pina Colada, as well as to Europe, where she embraced the opportunity to work abroad in Germany. Shopping, playing lotto, hitting the casinos and watching the latest movies were simple pleasures that brought her immense joy.

Sissy's legacy is one of laughter, generosity and an unwavering commitment to those she loved. Her courage was silent yet mighty, teaching us all the power of facing life's adversities with a smile. Sissy's life was a masterclass in loving fully, laughing often, and betting on the goodness in others. As we remember Sissy, let us carry forward her infectious enthusiasm for life and her unwavering kindness to others. Her spirit remains a beacon of light that continues to guide us, even as we bid her farewell.
