Sigrun K. Fakharzadeh (nee Fridriksdottir), 96 years young, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Monday, November 24, 2025.

Born in Iceland, she came to the United States in 1948 to further her education, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry at the University of Washington and then a Master of Food Science degree at Cornell University. While a student at the University of Washington, she met Mehdi Fakharzadeh, a student from Iran, whom she married in 1953.

She was always ready to offer a helping hand, and with her husband Mehdi, opened their home to innumerable friends and relatives with incomparable warmth and grace. She was extraordinarily intelligent, compassionate, and caring, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Sigrun is pre-deceased by her late husband of 66 years Mehdi Fakharzadeh (2019). She is survived by sons Fred (Patricia) of Oradell, Jahan (Gaynell) of Park City UT, Steven (Diane) of Malvern PA, daughter Shirine Hickey (Gary) of Oradell, grandchildren Kristine (William Snider), Stephanie (Maddie Brown), Daniel (Cara), Michelle, Elissa, Eric, Thomas (Emily DeLuca), Caroline, and Kathryn, and 8 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by dozens of nieces and nephews.

The Funeral will begin from the G. Thomas Gentile Funeral Home, 397 Union Street, Hackensack, on Saturday, November 29, at 10:45 AM. The Funeral Service will be celebrated at 12:00 Noon at the Second Reformed Church of Hackensack, 436 Union Street, Hackensack, with burial following at George Washington Memorial Park Cemetery, Paramus. The immediate family will receive extended family and friends on Friday, November 28, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM for visitation at the Funeral Home.
