Scott B. Koenig Obituary
Scott B. Koenig of Hackensack, formerly of Ridgefield Park, NJ, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, surrounded by family, at the age of 70. It was in Ridgefield Park that Scott met his high school
sweetheart, Karen. They married and began their family of five, building a life there until 2005 before making Hackensack their home for the last 21 years. A true patriot, Scott proudly served in the United States Navy from 1973 to 1977. Following his service, he went on to a dedicated career as a Mail Carrier for 30-year the United States Postal Service before retiring. Known as "the biggest kid of all," Scott loved his family more than anything and was always armed with a joke. To his neighbors and friends, he was better known as the "Mayor of Davis Ave." If you are from Ridgefield Park, then you know what "The Pit" is. Scott would rush down to stand in the
middle of it, cheering on both his children, Michael and Krista, as they played softball and baseball on opposite ends of the field. He even continued to play co-ed softball with them despite a "bad hip." Scott was an avid bowler for most of his life, finding both spirited competition and lifelong friendships within the bowling community. He was honored for several achievements over the years, most notably his numerous perfect 300 games and 800 series scores. He took immense joy in watching his son Kevin follow in his footsteps, proudly celebrating Kevin's
own personal achievements on the lanes. However, Scott's greatest pride and joy was his grandson, Carter. He cherished their Sunday morning outings at Bowler City, watching Carter bowl, giving high fives and hugs, eating munchkins, playing in the arcade, and returning home to play (and win at) Yahtzee! Scott was the beloved husband of Karen A. (née Bravo) for 48 years. He was the devoted father of Michael S. Koenig, Krista M. Koenig,
and Kevin J. Koenig. He was the loving grandfather to Carter William Koenig. He is also survived by his dearest sister, Susan Herleth, and her husband, Alfons. A memorial service will be held at G. Thomas Gentile Funeral Home, 397 Union Street, Hackensack, NJ, on Monday, March 30, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Cremation will be held privately.
