Obituary of Frank C. Longo

FRANK C. LONGO, of Hackensack, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 5, 2012, at the age of 84 years. Born in Moonachie, he lived in Hackensack for more than 60 years. Frank always beamed with pride in telling his daughters that "you can always tell how much luck someone has in life, by how hard they worked for it".and he lived that dream. He began that journey as a farmer in Moonachie, where as a teen he managed the farm for his Mom. Once married, he bought his wife Eleanor her first automatic washer. After delivering a hearty crop of lettuce and then eagerly harvesting the next crop of tomatoes to the market, he was able to get his devoted "Ely" the matching dryer. In 1951,the farms were sold and he entered into the independent trucking business. Frank became President of Polifly Trucking Company in Hackensack. In 1965, he established Fralon Construction company, and was the builder and owner of his first Apartment building in Hackensack and Sellon Corporation to follow;with his 2nd construction project.In 1967. He ventured into the Commercial Building arena and built the well known Eastern Clay Indoor Tennis Club in Hackensack as well several office buildings,homes and warehouses. In 1971,Mr. Longo became a member of the Builders Association and served as Board member of NJ Builders Association in 1972. He was later appointed to the New Jersey Dept of Environmental Commission by the NJ Builders. In 1976, Mr. Longo was appointed as a Commissioner to the Bergen County Utilities Authority and Vice Chairman of the Hackensack Board of Adjustment. In 1980, He was elected President of North Jersey Builders Association and appointed to the Hackensack Housing Authority. He was later named "Builder of the Year" by the Northern New Jersey Builders Association. In 1969, he became the owner of the Arch Restaurant in Hackensack and Elco Home Improvement located in Englewood. . . He was committed to his family and continued to serve the local community until his retirement; where he always loved gardening and a good game of Gin Rummy. Frank was a parishioner of Holy Trinity R. C. Church of Hackensack. He was relentless in his devotion to the town of Hackensack and served as Democratic County Committeeman, charter member of the Hackensack Democratic Club, VP of Hackensack Civil Association, a life member of Hackensack Elks Lodge #658, Moose Lodge #489, friends of the Johnson Free Public Library, seven years as Chairman of the Hackensack Community Chest, elected as Hackensack Municipal Chairman in 1965, appointed to the Hackensack Board of Adjustment in 1967 and served as Chairman of the Board in 1969. Frank was predeceased by his loving wife of 32 years, Eleanor Wascha Longo, now finally reunited in Heaven. Loving father of Linda Longo and Diane Longo. Cherished grandfather of Carrie Williams Greene and Patrick Williams. Devoted son of the late Dominick and Veronica Ciavaglia Longo. Dearest brother of Edward Longo, Rose Spirito, and the late John Tucci, Dominick Longo, Paul Longo, Angelina Paradiso, Mollie Tucci, Rachel DeGregorio, and Veronica Sylvester. A private funeral was held from the G. Thomas Gentile Funeral Home in Hackensack with burial at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus.
