Obituary of Lucy M. Chmielowicz

LUCY M. WEGRZYNSKI CHMIELOWICZ, of Danbury, CT., formerly of River Edge, NJ, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Friday, March 10, 2017 at the age of 100 years. Lucy was born and lived in Bayonne, NJ, for fifty two years. She then moved to River Edge, NJ, and lived there until three years ago when she moved to Danbury, CT. Lucy was a faithful friend, a fiercely protective mother, and a loving grand and great grandmother. As a child, Lucy worked hard against the challenges that the Great Depression had brought to her family. She worked during the summer at her aunt's farm in New York State. She showed great courage as she raised her children after the death of her husband. Lucy never backed down from a fight and devoted her life to her family. She was a voracious reader and advocate of women's rights. Her love of life and sharp sense of humor will be missed by many. Most of all, we will miss her endless, unconditional love. Devoted daughter of the late Marya and John Wegrzynski. Beloved wife of the late John S. Chmielowicz who died in 1962. Loving mother of Christine Garbarino and her husband Paul, Jack Chmielowicz, Lynn Meek and her husband Tom, and the late Roxanne Conroy who died in 2011. Cherished grandmother of seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Lucy is also pre-deceased by 2 brothers, Leo and Henry, and 2 sisters, Helen and Jean. A prayer service will be held on Friday evening, March 17th, at 7:30 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends on Friday from 4:00 – 8:00PM for visitation.
