Obituary of Charles J. Capozzi

CHARLES J. CAPOZZI, of Hackensack, passed away peacefully in the presence of his family on Wednesday, July 27, 2011, at the resolute age of 92. Prior to retiring he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service where he served as the Union Shop Steward, South Hackensack Sectional Center, Curtiss-Wright in Wood-Ridge, as a Precision Grinder, and as a self-employed cabinet maker. After retirement, he was also employed by Sears Roebuck, Hackensack. He was an Army Veteran of World War II, a former member of the Hackensack American Legion VFW and Hackensack Moose Lodge and a parishioner of Holy Trinity R.C. Church, Hackensack. He was a 1937 graduate of Hackensack High School where he lettered in both Soccer and Track and Field. Always vital, he was an avid bowler in numerous leagues around the County, including Bowler City, Hackensack, and achieved a high score of 298. A willing mentor to all who knew him, he taught the lessons of life by example. Born April 19, 1919 in Bayonne to his cherished parents, Michael and Nellie (nee Sista) Capozzi, who soon moved to Hackensack, where he was a life time resident. Beloved husband of the late Edith F. (nee Pescatore) (2008) for over 65 years. Loving father to Debra Capozzi and her husband Peter Romano, Charles M. Capozzi and his wife Carmen of Hackensack. Cherished grandfather of Michael C. and Charles J. Capozzi. Dearest brother of Irene Peragine of Bloomingdale, Vincent M. Capozzi and his special friend, Gerry Milan of Indiana and Rocco Capozzi and his wife Veda of Florida and the late Michael, Carlo, Henry, Rocco, John and Carmine Capozzi. Godfather to Richard Capozzi. Charles is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families. The Funeral will be on Tuesday, August 2, at 9:45 AM from the G. Thomas Gentile Funeral Home, 397 Union Street, Hackensack. The Mass Christian Burial 11:00 AM at Holy Trinity R.C. Church, Hackensack. Cremation will be private. The family will receive friends on Monday, August 1, from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Charles’ memory to: Bergen County Meals on Wheels Program.
