Obituary of Valarie W. Martin
VALARIE W. MARTIN, (Nee Woodson) was born in Brooklyn, New York on November 19, 1935 to Howard and Bertha Woodson. She departed this life on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck, New Jersey. At the age of 8 she moved to Closter, New Jersey where she graduated High School in 1954. She went on to earn a degree in business/stenography at Drake Business School. She then married the late Wilbur (Jack) Martin and of that union two children were born. Growing up, Valarie was a member of Centennial AME Zion Church in Closter, NJ. While residing in Teaneck and raising her family, she joined First Baptist Church of Teaneck where she served as Church Clerk for fifteen (15) years. In her later years when she moved to Hackensack, NJ she became a member at New Hope Baptist Church in Hackensack, NJ. She was employed by the NY State Dept. of Education as a stenographer for 35 years, retiring in 1991. After retirement, due to her love of children, she became a part time lunch aide at Benjamin Franklin Junior High School in Teaneck for over10 years. She enjoyed working with children, reading, and spending time with her family. Her home was always open to all the neighborhood kids who she loved so much. Valarie is predeceased in death by her parents, Howard and Bertha and her brother Howard, Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory two loving daughters Angela Martin and Cynthia Woods-Daisley and son in law Kevin and grandson Andre Woods all of Hackensack, NJ. Brother-in-laws, sister in laws and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. A Memorial service will be held at New Hope Baptist Church, 306 First Street, Hackensack, NJ on Saturday, June 30th at 10:00 AM.
