Obituary of Joseph A. Bracchitta
Joseph Anthony Bracchitta, of Palm Desert, CA, formerly of Hackensack, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2014, at the age of 86 years. Prior to retiring, he operated several night clubs in California. Previously, Joe had a brilliant career in baseball. He left high school to play professional baseball and played his entire career with the New York Giants. He was honored in 1948 with "Joe Bracchitta Day" in Roosevelt Stadium, Jersey City where he played ball with Hall of Famer Monte Irvin. He was drafted by the Army during the Korean War, where he proudly served his country, being the recipient of the Medal of Valor, while Monte was moved up to the NY Giants. Upon his return, the Tigers and Cubs offered to buy his contract, but the Giants refused and sealed his fate. He continued for several more years playing AAA baseball. Beloved husband of Francine M. (nee Dallons). Loving father to Toni Russell, Debbie Patton, and Shellie Moscinski. Adored grandfather of 4 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Devoted son of the late Anthony and Filomena (nee Conti) Bracchitta. Cherished brother of Josephine Falato of South Hackensack. Dearest Uncle of John Falato and Karen Falato. The funeral on Saturday, May 24th, at 8:15 AM, from the funeral home. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 AM at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 49 Vreeland Avenue, Hackensack, with burial following at St. Joseph's Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM.
