Obituary of Marie G. Melillo

MARIE G. BARONE MELILLO, of New Port Richey, FL, formerly of South Hackensack, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 28, 2014 at the age of 88, after a 4 year battle with pancreatic cancer. She was a graduate of Hackensack Hospital School of Nursing in 1946 and a member of the US Nurse Cadet Corp. during WWII. Before retiring in 1985, she was a nurse at Hackensack Hospital, school nurse of Memorial School in South Hackensack, and nurse for Dr. Jerrold Arons, Dr. Ronald Low, and Dr. Andrew Kagan of Hackensack. Born in Hackensack to the late Mathew and Martha Barone (nee Scillieri). Beloved wife of the late Philip Melillo, Jr. (Sonny), former Deputy Mayor and Councilman of South Hackensack. She is survived by her son Philip W. Melillo and his wife Emilia (Amy) of Warwick, NY, daughter June Vigilanti and her husband Anthony (Tony) of South Hackensack, grandchildren Kerry Johnson and Warren of Maywood, Amy Minervini and John of Fairlawn, Kristin Van De Water and Pete of Warwick, NY, Michael Vigilanti and Maritza of South Hackensack, and Mark Melillo of Warwick, NY, sister Mildred Menne of Palm Harbor, FL, 6 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. The Funeral on Thursday October 2, 2014 at 8:45 AM at the funeral home. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 AM at St. Francis R.C. Church, 50 Lodi Street, Hackensack. Interment will follow at Hackensack Cemetery, Hackensack. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2 – 4 & 7 – 9 PM for visitation. The family extends their deepest thanks to Dr. Andrew Jennis and all the nurses and staff at the Hackensack UMC John Theurer Cancer Center for their excellent care and compassion during her lengthy illness.
