Obituary of Julio A. Magnifico

JULIO MAGNIFICO, passed away on Wednesday, March 30th, 2016 at the age of 97. He was born to Liboria (nee Sollazzo) and Carmelo Magnifico, in Sicily, Italy, he came to the U.S. in 1927 and was a lifelong resident of Hackensack. He was a loving son, brother, uncle and friend. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Angelo and Joseph(Jo-Jo) and sister Rose Marie. Survived by his sister, Angela Cingale and her husband Raymond of Williamsburg, VA; Nieces Mary Anne, Lia, Joanne Dinallo(Dave), and Sandy Magnifico Young(Dave). Nephews, Jimmy and Tony Magnifico, Tommy Herrunzie, Salvatore and John Caruso; many grand-nieces and nephews. He served with the Hackensack National Guard, Headquarters Battery, 2nd Battalion, 165 Field Artillery and was called to Army duty from 1940 to 1945, and served as a Scout in the Aleutian Islands during WWII. He also served in the Philippines for one year. Upon his return from the Army, he studied at the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Art and taught art classes locally and at the New York Students Art League. He was also a member of the Salmagundi Club in Manhattan for many years. He also had his own studio in Hackensack and New York City and taught weekly art classes. After college, he worked with his father as a stone mason to build the family home building business and his beautiful work can still be viewed in Hackensack and many homes Bergen and Passaic County. He loved to watch the New York Yankees baseball and Giants football games. He was a lifelong member of St. Francis Church and sang in the choir and participated in the church plays and often created the scenery, backdrops and props. A celebration of Julio's life will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 50 Lodi Street, Hackensack, NJ, on Monday, April 4th, at 10:00 AM, with interment following at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Hackensack. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate prayers or mass cards.
