Obituary of Stephen Westervelt

Stephen Westervelt, of Wood Ridge, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, December 31, 2018, at the age of 60 years, Born in Jersey City, he lived in Wood Ridge for 33 years. Steve was a 1976 graduate of Paramus Catholic High School and shortly thereafter joined IBEW Local Union # 164 of Jersey City and Paramus and worked as an electrician until he retired recently. Steve was very active in the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks where he was a member and Past Exalted Ruler of the Hackensack Lodge # 658, Past District Deputy for the North East District and former Vice President of the North East District. Beloved husband for 33 years of Darlene (nee Demeter). Cherished nephew of Andrew Kane and his wife Roberta of Manahawkin. Loving brother "from another mother" of Kevin Kane and his wife Maureen of Paramus. Dearest Cousin of Diane Neuschwanter and her husband Keith of Riverdale and other cousins, relatives, and many, many friends, including his best friend "Munson". The Prayer Service will be held on Friday, January 4th, at 10:00 AM at the G. Thomas Gentile Funeral Home, 397 Union Street Hackensack, with burial following at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM.
