Obituary of Marguerite McMahon

Marguerite O. McMahon, 73, of Brooklyn, NY, formerly of River Edge, NJ, passed away on March 26, 2021. Marguerite was born in Bayonne, NJ and lived in Brooklyn, NY until age 11 when her family returned to Bayonne. A graduate of Bayonne High School, Marguerite went on to establish a career as a legal secretary and then a paralegal specializing in trusts and estates. Marguerite was an active member of Legal Secretaries Associations at the state and county levels early in her career, served as editor of the River Edge Newsletter for ten years and volunteered her time and talents to many other causes. Marguerite was loving, generous and very faithful. She took a genuine interest in everyone she met. Marguerite cherished her family and friends, enjoyed celebrating every holiday and special occasion and had a way of being present for others in their joys, sorrows and everything in-between. Marguerite was predeceased by the love of her life, her husband, James F. McMahon, in 2002, by her father, Frank Ornstein, and by her brothers-in-law, Frederick Albietz and Robert McMahon. Marguerite is survived by her daughter, Lena M. McMahon and her husband, Patrick of Brooklyn, NY, her grandchildren, Lucia and Patrick, her mother, Barbara Ornstein (nee Lewko), her sister, Barbara Albietz, her brother and sister-in law, Frank and Sandy Ornstein, her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Patricia McMahon Reen and Thomas Reen, and her sister-in-law, Jeanie McMahon. Marguerite is also survived by her nieces and nephews, cousins and countless friends. Marguerite's family wishes to extend their sincerest gratitude to Andrene, Bianca, Dione, Iona, Mariam, Sharon and Tenysha, the kind, skillful and courageous caregivers who helped Marguerite maintain her independence. Visitation will be held at the G. Thomas Gentile Funeral Home, 397 Union Street, Hackensack, NJ, on Monday, April 5, from 3 - 8 p.m. Masks, temperature checks and social distancing will be required. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 6 at 10 am at Holy Trinity Church, 34 Maple Avenue, Hackensack, NJ. Masks and social distancing will be required. Burial will follow at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus, NJ.
