Obituary of Annette T. Atwood

Antoinette "Annette" Theresa Atwood (nee Augusto), 90, of Manchester Twp., NJ, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, June 3, 2022. She was born in Newark to the late Pasquale and Minnie, and raised in Hackensack. After graduating Hackensack High School, she earned her certification as an Accredited Record Technician (A.R.T.). Annette worked at Hackensack University Medical Center as Director, Pascack Valley Hospital in Westwood as Assistant Director, and Kennedy Memorial Hospitals at Saddle Brook as Director, all in Medical Records. At Kennedy, she also worked closely with Administration, assisting them in their Legal Department. She also worked at South Bergen Hospital in Hasbrouck Heights, helping them as needed. Annette was a former parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi R.C. Church in Hackensack. She had a tremendous affection for animals, especially elephants, her Black Lab Zorro, Goldendoodle Gemma, and Zorro's brother Brodie, a Chocolate Lab. She was an avid sports fan, who especially loved the New York Yankees. Beloved wife of the late Frank Atwood (2014). Devoted mother of Mindy Pokrywa and her husband Michael of Sayreville, NJ, Lauren Atwood of Manchester Twp., NJ, and Allison Zachok and her husband William of Parsippany, NJ. Loving Grandmother (G'ma) of Michael and his wife Kate, Mitchell and his girlfriend Paige, Mia and her husband Daniel and Great-Grandmother (GG'ma) of Joshua, Oliver, Prudence, and Dania. Dearest sister of the late John Romanelli and his wife Helen, Andrew Romanelli and his wife Anna, and Thomas Augusto. Survived by sister-in-law Felicia Romanelli. Annette is also survived by her special niece Robin Cerniglia and her husband Matthew, and several other loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. Also survived by niece Theresa Wetzel and her husband Robert, and cousin Connie Pikulski and her husband John. Predeceased by several cousins, nephews, and their spouses, including nephew Andrew Romanelli and his wives Betty Romanelli and Betty Butler-Romanelli, nephew John Romanelli and his surviving wife Rochelle. Funeral will begin on Wednesday, June 8, at 8:45 AM from the G. Thomas Gentile Funeral Home, 397 Union Street, Hackensack. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 8, at 10:00 AM at St. Francis of Assisi R.C. Church, 50 Lodi Street, Hackensack with burial following at St. Joseph Cemetery, Hackensack. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 7, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM for visitation at the funeral home.
