Candida "Candy" L. Gutschmidt (nee Calabrese), of Lodi, formerly of Hackensack, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at the age of 66. Candy loved working with children, as an aid at Nellie K. Parker School, and as caregiver for Miranda and Ariana Aquino (in recent years, her granddaughter Jillian Jiara Jackson). Later, Candy worked for Dr. Thomas R. Peterson in Hackensack, prior she had worked as a salon coordinator for Dare to be different in Hackensack for many years. She was a parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Episcopal Church, Hackensack. Beloved wife of William "Bill" Gutschmidt for 45 years. Cherished mother and best friend of Danielle Jackson and her husband Toney of Hackensack, William Gutschmidt and his wife Maureen of Hillsborough and the late William Gutschmidt Jr. Loving grandmother ("Gaga") to Jillian, Amanda and Joseph. Dearest sister of Joseph Calabrese and his wife Karen, William Calabrese and his wife Marie and the late John Calabrese. She is also survived by several loving nephews, nieces and close friends. Candy is fondly remembered by many. Her humor, generosity, and zest for life were known and loved hallmarks of her personality. The Funeral will begin from the G. Thomas Gentile Funeral Home, 397 Union Street, Hackensack, on Monday, November 14, at 8:45 AM. The Mass of Requiem will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Episcopal Church, 72 Lodi Street, Hackensack at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Hackensack Cemetery, Hackensack. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2 – 4 & 7 - 9 PM for visitation.
