Kevin O'Boyle

Obituary of Kevin T. O'Boyle

Kevin O'Boyle (63) of Oradell, NJ passed away on February 26, 2023. For 36 years, he was Laverne (Saccaro) O'Boyle's husband and best friend. He was a deeply beloved father of four children, Kelsey, Lizzie, Conor, and Emily; son of Eileen O'Boyle and the late Walter O'Boyle; father-in-law to John Gavin and Josh Berger; and grandfather to his darling Anna. He is also survived by his four siblings, Una O'Boyle, Patricia Kost, Jimmy O'Boyle, and Eileen Mulcahy; his other set of parents, Dr. Bernard and Ann Marie Saccaro; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He lived a beautiful life filled with family, laughter and love. Kevin grew up in Hackensack and served as a police officer and detective in the Hackensack Police Department for 25 years. He spent his life protecting his family and his community. After his retirement from the HPD in 2010, he continued to serve those around him, driving sports teams for the Dumont Public Schools and the senior citizens of the borough of River Edge. As a lifetime member of the Bergen Irish, he was proud of his Irish heritage. He played Gaelic football with the St. Joseph's Gaelic Football Club throughout his youth and traveled twice with the New York All Stars to play tournaments in Croke Park in Dublin, Ireland. Kevin's greatest joy was to "jump and shoot" down the shore to Lavallette, ride his bike on the boardwalk, and "take a quick dip" in the ocean, no matter how cold. He loved all sports, and knew every record of every team one could imagine, whether they were a major league or local high school team. Kevin savored life's small moments: enjoying a Giants game or round of golf; watching the sunset on the back porch in Lavallette; holding his sweet Anna while she admired the birds and deer visiting his backyard. Kevin and Laverne moved their children to and from college and apartments up and down the eastern seaboard so often, they dubbed themselves the K&L Moving Company. He never thought twice about helping anyone in need. Kevin was a kind-hearted, funny, strong, humble, and generous man. He will be deeply missed and loved for all eternity. The Funeral will begin on Thursday, March 2, at 8:45 AM from the G. Thomas Gentile Funeral Home, 397 Union Street, Hackensack.
