Obituary of Mazie Ann Shuler
Mazie Ann Shuler, 88, passed away on September 16th, 2023. Mazie is survived by her beloved husband, Joseph, her three sons Eric, Kurt, and Lee, her daughters-in-law Beth, June, and Caroline, and her four grandchildren Michael, Stephen, Ryan, and Jillian. Mazie was born on August 29th, 1935, to Herman and Josephine Hoffman of Irwin, Pennsylvania. She married Joseph on September 5th, 1959, in Los Angeles, California. Mazie graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in June of 1957 with a B.S. in Education. After graduating, she taught fifth grade in Spokane, Washington. In June of 1959, Mazie received a Master's degree in Library Science and was employed by the City of Los Angeles as a children's librarian. Later in her career, she was in charge of the Bogota After-School Program for 12 years. She was an active officer of the Bogota Democratic Club and a long-time usher at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church. Mazie enjoyed baking, watching baseball games, collecting Depression glass, visiting garage sales, and taking care of her cats. She will always be remembered as an outgoing and kind family person with a good sense of humor. Her laugh was contagious and put a smile on the face of everyone she met. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 22, at Holy Trinity R.C. Church, 34 Maple Avenue, Hackensack, at 10:45 AM. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 21, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM for visitation at the G. Thomas Gentile Funeral Home, 397 Union Street, Hackensack. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Trinity R.C. Church's New Air Conditioning fund would be appreciated.
