Obituary of Elvira M. Tineo

Elvira M. Tineo (nee Santos) of Hackensack, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, October 1st, 2023. She was 98 years old. Born in Palero, Bonao, Dominican Republic, she emigrated to the United States in 1967 and settled in NYC with her husband, the late Amado Tineo, and their four oldest children. In January 1970, she returned to Dominican Republic to bring back her eight younger children. The family moved to Hackensack, NJ, in December 1973. In Dominican Republic, Elvira and her family owned a local convenience store and were farmers, including tobacco. Elvira was also a seamstress in Dominican Republic, a profession she continued here in the United States. Elvira was predeceased by her beloved husband of 41 years, Amado Tineo and three of their children, Jesus Tineo (Andrea), Ambrocia Collado (Napoleon -D), and Genara Duran (Rafael -D). She was also predeceased by her sisters Martina Luna, Celeste Rosario, Lidia Hierro, and her brother Dario Santos. She is survived by her children, Celestina Henriquez, Freddy Tineo (Luisa -D), Gilda Nunez (Juan Isidro-D), Alberta Tineo (German), Leonora Duran (Miguel), Felix Tineo (Belkis), Bernadette Duran (Rene), Lourdes Tarantino (Michael), and Feliciano Tineo (Cristina). She is also survived by her 55 grandchildren, 96 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren, dearest sisters, Angelica Lora of Florida, Juana Hernandez of NYC, Esmeralda Hernandez of Hackensack, and Bienvenida Rosario (Arcadio). Services Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 4th, 2023 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM at the G. Thomas Gentile Funeral Home, 397 Union Street, Hackensack. The Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, October 5th, 2023, 10:00 AM. at Holy Trinity Church, 34 Maple Ave, Hackensack, NJ. Burial to follow at Maple Grove Park Cemetery, 535 Hudson Street, Hackensack. In lieu of flowers, please have a mass said in Elvira's name at your local church or make a donation to St. Jude's as she became a supporter in the past few years.
