Obituary of Jonathan T. Mechan
Jonathan Thomas Mechan , 22, of Elmwood Park, New Jersey , passed away on January 16, 2024 in Hackensack Hospital. Jonathan was born in Paterson, NJ to Robert and Patricia Mechan on September 28, 2001. He went to high school at Hackensack and graduated in 2021. He worked as a Maintenance Technician for Swensen Construction in Hackensack, NJ for 2 years. Jon enjoyed Video Games, Cars, Cooking, Eating and Bowling (when he could). He was known for playing jokes and pranks on everyone especially when in the hospital; Jon would always tell you what was on his mind..good or bad. He was loved by everyone that he met, his personality was truly one of a kind, and if you met Jonathan even for a split second he remained in your heart and soul. He made an impression on all. For all that he went through in the short time on earth - he was strong, tough, courageous, brave,resilient, creative, loving, funny in other words a true warrior. He fought a great fight with all his obstacles with Cystic Fibrosis- but it was on a daily that more and more obstacles stood in his way. Jonathan is survived by his parents Robert and Patricia Mechan, his brothers, Matthew, Stephen and Andrew all of Elmwood Park, NJ, his Aunt Laurie LaVorgna of Elmwood Park, NJ, his grandmother Julia Mechan of Paramus, NJ and several Aunts, Uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his grandfather Robert Mechan, his grandfather and grandmother Gabriel and Doris Mazzotta. A prayer service will be held 10:00 AM, on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Paterson, NJ. Cremation will follow. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 19, 2024 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM for visitation, at the G. Thomas Gentile Funeral Home, 397 Union Street, Hackensack, with a vigil service at 6:00 PM.
