Obituary of Carmelo Colombo

Carmelo Colombo, of Paramus passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at the age of 92. He was born in Pozzallo, Sicily, Italy and came to the United States in 1957. Before moving to America he was a merchant marine and served in the Italian Navy for 2 years.He was a champion swimmer who set records for pool and ocean swimming in Italy. He was selected for the Italian Olympic Swim Team in the early 1950's. He was screen tested for a film by Federico Fellini due to his athletic renown. Prior to retiring he worked as a Supervisor for Beacon Looms in Teaneck for many years. He was a parishioner at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel R.C. Church, Ridgewood. Beloved husband for 60 years to the late Teresa G. Colombo (nee Zocco) 2018. Loving father to Tina Sokol and her husband Anthony of Paramus, Mary Grace Brigida ad her husband Andrew of Washington Township and the late Peter Colombo. Cherished grandfather of Kate, Pete, Marie, Gabriella, Alexia, Victoria and AJ. The Funeral will begin from G. Thomas Gentile Funeral Home, 397 Union Street, Hackensack, on Saturday March 9, at 8:45AM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, 10:00AM at St. Francis R.C. Church, 50 Lodi St. Hackensack, with entombment following at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus. The family will receive visitors on Friday, March 8, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM for visitation at the Funeral Home.
