Marjorie Knight

Obituary of Marjorie L. Knight

Marjorie Lois Knight (née Rescher) peacefully passed away on Wednesday, October 30th, 2024 at the age of 99. Born on December 15, 1924, in New York City, Marjorie lived through nearly a century of life with grace and wisdom, leaving a quiet yet powerful mark on all who knew her. For 64 years she was the beloved wife to the late Henry J. Knight (2007). With the strength of starting her family as a wartime Army wife, Marjorie was a devoted mother to Marilyn L. Riche, Barton C. Knight, and the late Marjorie L. Chup, Steven J. Knight, and David H. Knight. She was also a loving grandmother and great-grandmother to nine grandchildren and great grandchildren each. Her devotion to her family spilled over into her community, where she taught Sunday School and was active as a Class Mother in her children's classrooms. Marjorie had a beautiful mind, possessing a vast amount of knowledge about everything from sports, to literature, to theology, to world events, to music, and more. She was always a joy to sit and have quiet conversations with, and had the ability to make one feel like their interests were of the most captivating importance to her. She had a green thumb like no other and could turn any plant into the centerpiece of a beautiful garden, and she had a laugh that surpassed even that beauty. Her long life was filled with stories of invitations to dance with The Rockettes, to playing on the NJ state field hockey team, to how she could sew anything, and to all of the cats that she rescued and lovingly gave homes to over the years. But some of the most precious are the memories of the joy large family gatherings brought her, where her laughter could be heard as the doors to the kitchen swung open and shut, and the conversation topics were almost as innumerable as the number of pots used to lovingly prepare each persons favorite dish. She was loved as deeply as she will be missed. In each shared moment of her wisdom, recipes, and love, she will live on through the hearts of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Friday morning, November 15, 2024, from 9:00AM - 12:00PM for visitation at the G. Thomas Gentile Funeral Home, 397 Union Street, Hackensack. A prayer service will be held 12:00 Noon at the funeral home, with burial to follow at George Washington Memorial Park Cemetery, Paramus, NJ.
