Obituary of Colin R Unis

In Loving Memory of Colin Roy Unis November 19, 1969 – December 10, 2024 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Colin Roy Unis, who left us peacefully at home after a courageous 18-year battle with mental illness. Colin was a beloved father, son, brother, uncle, and friend, and his memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him. Born on November 19, 1969, in Jamaica, Colin spent his first 16 years of life there before moving to the United States in 1985. He was a devoted father to his son, Colin James (CJ), whose presence in his life brought him immense joy. Despite the challenges he faced, Colin always made time to check in on his son, with whom he shared a deep bond and love. Colin was a devoted husband and cherished by his former wife, Bridget Kaminski, who unconditionally supported him each and every way throughout his 18 year battle. Colin is predeceased by his mother Gloria Bentley and is survived by his son Colin James, ex-wife Bridget Kaminski, sister Dawnette Ingleton, and niece Arionne, among other family members and friends. Known for his gentle spirit, Colin had an innate ability to connect with people. His warmth and kindness made everyone he met feel welcome and his sense of humor brought laughter and light into the lives of those around him. Colin was a selfless individual who always put others first, and his loyalty as a friend was unwavering. A dedicated employee of ShopRite of Rochelle Park for 28 years, Colin worked as a produce clerk, taking great pride in his role and in helping others. Outside of work, Colin enjoyed listening to music, gardening, and watching his favorite National Geographic and country western shows. Although Colin's life was marked by struggles, his legacy will be one of love, kindness, and compassion. We take comfort in the memories of his warm heart and the joy he brought into our lives. His presence will be greatly missed but never forgotten. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, December 19, 2024, from 4:00PM - 8:00PM for visitation at the G. Thomas Gentile Funeral Home, 397 Union Street, Hackensack. A prayer service will be held on Friday morning, December 20, 2024 10:00 AM at the funeral home, with burial to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Saddle Brook, NJ.
