Obituary of Yasutsune Hirashiki

Yasutsune "Tony" Hirashiki, 86, of Hackensack, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2024 at the age of 86 at Hackensack Hospital. Beloved as a husband and father, Yasutsune is survived by his wife, Anhue Hirashiki, his daughter Ai Hirashiki, his son Yasuhiro Hirashiki, and his two grandsons, Noah Godlewicz and HanWool Hirashiki. He was born in Okinawa, Japan to Yoshiko and Yasuhiko Hirashiki on January 4, 1938. He worked as a cameraman for ABC News for over 40 years where he was a colleague, mentor and friend to many. After retiring, he wrote a book chronicling his experiences during the Vietnam War which won the 2009 Oya Soichi Nonfiction Award. He was an active member and unofficial cameraman for the Vietnamese Evangelical Church in NYC for four decades. Funeral services will be held at G. Thomas Gentile Funeral Home, 397 Union Street, Hackensack, NJ 07601 on Saturday, January 4, 2025 at 2 pm.
