Obituary of Carmela Ricotta
Carmela Ricotta of Maywood died peaceful surrounded by her family on January 5, 2025 at the age of 87. Carmela was born on April 6, 1937 in Bagnara, Calabria, where she grew up learning the arts of embroidery and cooking. She worked as an embroider before immigrating to the United States. Carmela settled in Bergen County where she married and started a family. She was a loving, kind, and compassionate woman who loved and cared for her family. She was a parishioner of Our Lady Queen of Peace R.C. Church. She worked in the garment industry as a seamstress and embroider for 30 years. She was also a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. Carmela became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1999. After retiring, she spent more time with family, friends, and traveled. She enjoyed preparing amazing meals and baking delicious cookies and cakes. The sauce she made was phenomenal. Beloved wife to the late Salvatore Ricotta. Loving mother to John Ricotta, Gaetano Ricotta and his wife Lisa. Cherished grandmother to Stella, Dylan, and Ryan. Dearest sister to Carmelo Savoia and his wife Rosaria, the late Giuseppina Gioffre and her husband Domenico, the late Rosaria Gentiluomo and her husband Rocco, the late Paulola Barila and her husband Rosario, and the late Rosario Savoia and his wife Liliana. Dearest sister in law to Carolina Zarcone and her husband Antonino, and the late Francesca Martino and her husband Giuseppe. Carmela is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. The Funeral will begin from the G. Thomas Gentile Funeral Home, 397 Union Street, Hackensack, on Friday, January 10, at 8:45 AM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 AM at Our Lady Queen of Peace R.C. Church, 400 Maywood Ave, Maywood. Entombment will follow at Garden of Memories in the Township of Washington. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4:00 – 8:00 PM for visitation at the funeral home.
